An apartment that celebrates every family member
Tucked away in Ashok Nagar is a house that proves you can be in the heart of the city and still have it all! In this client home, we have given each family member a space that is customised to their requirements while blending it with the larger design sensibility. Join us as we give you a look behind the scenes of a dynamic full home interior design process via a virtual tour of our spotlight home this month.
The barebones
The client had combined two apartments – a 2 BHK and a 3BHK to make a stunning five-bedroom home for his family. When we were given the project, most of the civil work was done by another contractor, and the requirement was very clear – complete end-to-end interiors with no compromise on quality, and a short turnaround time.
One part of the property came complete with veneer finishes for most of the panelling, and our first task was to do away with them altogether and opt for elevated lacquered glass, polymarble sheets and laminates for an elegant aesthetic. Another important requirement was to maximise the given space to give the client a clean and airy home with large open spaces.
The execution
We opted for a monochromatic scheme for the walls and interiors throughout this home. Rich earthy accents, textured wallpapers and geometrical patterns were used to further create a visual interest in every space. The client hosts people in his home often, and wanted to create spaces around the property that are warm and inviting, while also being private without restricting the free flow of conversation.

The two apartments intersect in the living room to create a large gathering area. We have used polymarble sheets to mount the TV unit for an optimal viewing experience. Clear glass windows have been employed to ensure natural light streams in through the day. “Whenever a client asks for open floor space, we try to incorporate as much natural light as possible in the room to retain the airy aesthetic,” says Arthy, the lead architect on this project. We also added a dedicated seating area far removed from the television for more formal meetings.
We used the latest in modular wardrobe technology with aristo wardrobes in every bedroom. They are not just perfect to efficiently manage a space, the lacquered glass finish seamlessly marries function and style with a clean contemporary style.

However, one-bedroom did pose a challenge for us. “When the apartments were combined, there was a load-bearing column and beam in one of the bedrooms. It was exciting to be part of the brainstorming process and come up with innovative solutions, especially because this was in the centre of the room,” Arthy adds. Our interior decorators in Chennai converted that space into a large walk-in wardrobe and used a false ceiling to cover the beam.
Piece de resistance
Arguably the most exciting part of this project was sectioning off the large, expansive balcony into three dedicated zones. The first is a barbeque area that comes complete with an island bar and a dining table for family and friends to enjoy their meals al fresco! The second is a dedicated outdoor seating area with a floating sofa and comfortable seating. We have sectioned off dedicated meeting spaces on the periphery of the terrace with floor-length curtains for privacy when needed.

We are proud to say that this project was undertaken at the apex of the lockdown, and our best interior designers in Chennai worked round the clock, and battled all odds to deliver this home in the shortest time possible! Our clients boast of a home that transcends time and creates awe and wonder in the minds of their guests long after they leave.
